Couch Potato Pickings | Rachel Getting Married – is this Anne Hathaway’s best film?

So which is Anne Hathaway‘s best film?

She’s great in all of them (OK, well maybe not Bride Wars), but for me Rachel Getting Married is by far her best performance to date. In it she plays recovering drug addict Kym, who comes out of rehab to attend her sister Rachel’s wedding. As the title suggests, this film is more about Rachel (Rosemarie DeWitt) getting married than it is about Hathaway’s character, but Kym’s presence acts as a catalyst for everyone else’s residual issues.

Jonathan Demme is the directing talent behind this documentary style movie, and it’s so brilliantly well observed that you feel like you’re actually there as one of the guests. Hathaway was Oscar nominated for her performance in this film, but Kate Winslet ended up bagging the award for The Reader.

I’m now waiting (rather impatiently) to see Hathaway play the legendary Judy Garland in Get Happy: The Life of Judy Garland – out next year.

Rachel Getting Married is showing on Sky Movies Premiere tonight (7th May) at 12.05am, and at various times throughout the week.

Get Smart is showing on Sky Movies Comedy on Friday 14th May at 9.50pm

Bride Wars is showing on Sky Movies Drama & Romance today (7th May) at 10.10pm

Alice in Wonderland is coming out on DVD, and on Sky Box Office and FilmFlex, on 4th June
